Damnatio Memoriae Underway

What show are me and 47K+ of my closest friends flipping between right now (Fri June 9 at 9 PM Central)? The USMNT playing Paraguay in the World Cup opener, of course, and the Detrumpification of the Kennedy Center.

The USA is killing it in the football match in LA, and I like to think there is a similar sense of victory in DC. The livefeed of the crowd indicates there is a genuine joy in the streets, a party-going feel, as the workers noisly reinforce every joint of the scaffolding. We all anticipate the moment when the chisel dislodges the first of the letters from the unauthorized addition to the Kennedy Center name. We and my 48K friends are, as they say, all anticipation.

People in the live chat want to know, “WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG?” Are they slow-walking this? Is thus the usual speed that government contractors work at? The impatience is palpable. Why? I don’t know, but it seems like there’s a metaphor afoot. The business of ejecting a demagogue is a long anf laborious one

It’s 10:08 PM, and it’s happening. 78K people watching now, and cheers are audible. “TAKE TIT DOWN! TAKE IT DOWN!”
